Overview
You will own anesthetic and surgical nursing for a high-volume small animal practice in Brooklyn Heights. What You'll Do9
- 1Lead anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for surgical and dental patients, using isoflurane and sevoflurane with precision.
- 2Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and sterile supplies, maintaining strict aseptic technique and infection control standards.
- 3Assist veterinarians during intraoperative procedures, managing fluid therapy and medication administration as directed.
- 4Provide postoperative patient care, including pain management and recovery monitoring, to ensure stable transitions.
- 5Troubleshoot and maintain hospital equipment, including anesthetic machines, ventilators, and monitors, to avert downtime.
- 6Maintain accurate patient medical records using electronic software, ensuring timely and thorough documentation.
- 7Monitor surgical inventory and supply levels, restocking to meet procedure demands and prevent shortages.
- 8Participate in staff meetings to review workflow and refine patient care protocols, sharing insights from your clinical experience.
- 9Mentor junior technicians in anesthesia and surgical nursing, demonstrating best practices in patient monitoring and aseptic technique.
Requirements6
- 1Current licensure as an LVT, CVT, or RVT in the State of New York in good standing, or enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician program.
- 25+ years of surgical or anesthesia-based experience in a clinical setting, with proven proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and surgical nursing.
- 3Strong technical skills in radiology, dental prophylaxis, and patient monitoring, with the ability to adapt to varying case loads.
- 4Demonstrated ability to mentor junior staff, providing guidance and feedback in high-stress situations.
- 5In-depth knowledge of infection control protocols and sterile technique, applied consistently in all procedures.
- 6Proficiency with electronic medical records systems, ensuring accurate data entry and retrieval.
