Valve Technician, Process Valves & Actuation
Overview
You will own assembly, testing, and quality for fully lined process valves at a small Houston shop. You will master the entire product line, from PTFE/PFA lined ball and butterfly valves to actuated assemblies. The team ships to chemical and pharma customers across North America, and you will become the go-to person on the floor. This role stands out because you will eventually plan the build schedule and check others' work, with no layer between you and leadership.
What You'll Do10
- 1Assemble lined ball, butterfly, and sampling valves with PTFE and PFA liners, including seats and stem seals.
- 2Mount and set up pneumatic and electric actuators, ISO 5211 topworks, limit switches, and positioners.
- 3Torque sequence and bolt up lined bodies, protecting the liner from damage.
- 4Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic shell and seat testing to customer PO spec, documenting results.
- 5Read GA drawings, BOMs, and customer specs without assistance.
- 6Work to calipers and micrometers; pull parts, stage jobs, and support pack-out and inventory accuracy.
- 7Plan the shop's build schedule against the order book.
- 8Train and check the work of others, including office staff rotating through the shop.
- 9Own first-article and final inspection; stop a job that is not right.
- 10Improve the process with fixtures, standard work, and 5S; provide coverage when the production lead is out.
Requirements7
- 15+ years hands-on mechanical assembly in industrial environments such as valves, actuation, rotating equipment, or instrumentation.
- 2Documented pressure testing experience to written spec, including hydro and/or pneumatic.
- 3Comfortable with drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
- 4Evidence of training people, running a shift, or being the go-to on your team.
- 5Forklift certified or certifiable, able to lift 50 lbs, and able to stand a full shift.
- 6Demonstrated precision: slow down and get it right rather than shipping questionable work.
- 7Preferred: lined valve (PTFE/PFA) experience, actuator sizing and setup, ERP/MRP systems, quality inspection background, or welding/fabrication.
