Utility-Scale Trenching Division Manager R-2 Contractors
Overview
Lead and grow a high-performing Utility-Scale Trenching Division delivering safe productive underground conduit installation across the United States. Partner with Operations Manager and executives to oversee production trenching single-pass mechanical laying cable lay box operations and operational execution. Develop people improve performance strengthen customer relationships and drive long-term division growth.
What You'll Do13
- 1Provide strategic leadership for all trenching operations across multiple utility-scale construction projects
- 2Build mentor and develop high-performing team of Superintendents Foremen Equipment Operators and field leaders
- 3Lead high-production trenching and underground conduit installation including single-pass mechanical laying cable lay box operations bedding placement warning mesh installation backfilling and restoration
- 4Coordinate trenching resources support equipment production sequencing and underground installation activities to maximize efficiency
- 5Ensure safe accurate completion of trenches and conduit installations according to project specifications
- 6Partner with Project Managers Operations Leadership Estimating and executive leadership to guarantee successful project delivery
- 7Drive operational consistency through planning communication accountability and execution
- 8Monitor production productivity equipment utilization quality and overall operational performance
- 9Develop future leaders via coaching mentorship performance management and succession planning
- 10Build strong relationships with customers General Contractors subcontractors suppliers and project stakeholders
- 11Identify opportunities to enhance productivity efficiency safety quality and operational performance
- 12Champion continuous improvement initiatives while reinforcing company processes and best practices
- 13Promote safety as highest priority lead by example reinforce R-2 Core Values daily
Requirements12
- 1Minimum 10 years heavy civil or underground utility construction experience including utility-scale power renewable energy transmission substation or large underground infrastructure projects
- 2Proven experience leading multiple trenching crews Superintendents and large-scale underground utility construction operations
- 3Strong knowledge of high-production trenching single-pass mechanical laying underground conduit installation trench safety bedding placement warning mesh installation backfilling and restoration practices
- 4Demonstrated experience operating Tesmec trenchers Vermeer trenchers rock saws cable lay box systems and associated support equipment
- 5Working knowledge of GPS grade control trench alignment production planning operational scheduling and resource allocation
- 6Strong financial and business acumen managing operational budgets and project performance
- 7Ability to build lead and develop high-performing teams
- 8Excellent leadership organizational communication and problem-solving skills
- 9Commitment to safety accountability operational excellence and quality workmanship
- 10Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- 11Ability to complete pre-employment drug screening and background check
- 12Travel approximately 25 percent each month to project sites nationwide with additional travel required for critical meetings and activities
