Overview

The US Communications Assistant will support the domestic communications team to implement strategies that inform public debate on sexual and reproductive health and rights across US channels. This role collaborates with cross-divisional staff to create and disseminate materials for the website, email list, and social media, monitor impact, and provide research and project support. Based in NYC or DC with hybrid work, the role reports to the Principal US Communications Strategist and helps coordinate rapid responses, events, and media relations to advance policy and program objectives.

What You'll Do12

  • 1Build and project manage the production of communications materials in collaboration with senior staff and cross-divisional teams
  • 2Disseminate materials to email lists, website, social channels and media contacts
  • 3Prepare materials for publication on the website and assist with review processes
  • 4Provide research support by synthesizing information from internal and external sources
  • 5Contribute to rapid response efforts and support major events such as Supreme Court decision analyses
  • 6Monitor media coverage and track metrics including citations and requests
  • 7Research journalists and update media lists
  • 8Assist with social media scheduling, posting, and monitoring and support video content planning
  • 9Prepare event materials and briefing materials for speaking engagements
  • 10Respond to information requests and prepare project reports for staff, boards, funders and stakeholders
  • 11Represent the Institute at coalition meetings and conferences
  • 12Coordinate internal and external meeting logistics and maintain project trackers

Requirements8

  • 1Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience
  • 2Strong written and verbal communication skills and meticulous organizational abilities
  • 3Ability to multi-task across time-sensitive administrative and communications tasks
  • 4Demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and independent initiative
  • 5Professionally represent the Institute to diverse audiences
  • 6Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • 7Experience with social media platforms and responsible use of AI tools
  • 8Familiarity with web CMS (e.g. Drupal), email marketing (e.g. Mailchimp), and design tools (e.g. Canva) is a plus
