Overview
Policy Associate at The New Foreign Assistance in Washington DC will own a set of initiatives and support senior leaders to turn ideas into white papers, bills, and programs for State Department and Congress. You will collaborate across operations and policy to design flagship initiatives on trade, health, and procurement reform. You will help socialize research through media and coalitions and support board and leadership activities. This role rewards a tenacious communicator who can navigate a conservative policy environment and move ideas quickly through a small team.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and design flagship initiatives on trade and investment, health moonshots, and procurement reform in collaboration with policy and program teams
- 2Draft white papers, briefing memos, and analyses for State Department and Congress to inform policy decisions
- 3Support partnerships and external events to convert ideas into high-impact programs with external stakeholders
- 4Provide policy guidance and briefings to policymakers at the State Department, White House, and congressional staff as needed
- 5Represent The New Foreign Assistance in consultations and coalition groups to build bipartisan support
- 6Coordinate research and present findings to internal and external audiences via presentations and op-eds
- 7Support executive leadership in board meeting preparation and strategic planning with data and insights
- 8Socialize research through social media, briefings, and op-eds to broaden reach
- 9Assist in resilience of operations and program management across tasks in a fast moving environment
- 10Enhance internal operations and communications to enable rapid policy pivots as opportunities arise
Requirements10
- 1Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work with senior staff across policy, programmatic, partnership, and operations tasks in a small team
- 2Comfort with ambiguity and rapid decision-making in a conservative policy environment while maintaining professional polish
- 3Familiarity with private sector dynamics and commercial diplomacy and ability to connect ideas to practical programs in a Washington context
- 4Strong writing and communication skills with a track record of clear, persuasive materials for policymakers
- 5Experience with AI tools to support analysis and reporting encouraged
- 6Willingness to travel regionally and internationally up to 10% as needed
- 7Ability to balance speed with strategic impact and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
- 8Comfort working with reform-minded colleagues across political lines in a bipartisan setting
- 9Resilience to work in a fast-moving, small team environment with tight timelines
- 10Location: Washington, DC with in-person work several days per week and flexibility for short-notice travel
