Overview

You will own patient transport and lifting support at MarinHealth Medical Center, a 327-bed hospital, moving patients safely across units with BLS and IAMTAC certifications. You will work with nursing teams to assess transfer needs, using body mechanics and lift equipment. This role puts you at the center of hospital operations, responding to calls within 10 minutes.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Respond to transport calls within 10 minutes, prioritizing 'Stat' requests and updating staff on arrival time.
  • 2Assess each transport for safety, choosing the right equipment and level of assistance before moving the patient.
  • 3Assist care teams moving patients in and out of beds, using lift equipment and proper body mechanics.
  • 4Push wheelchairs, gurneys, and beds safely across the hospital, keeping equipment clean and in working order.
  • 5Track transports per shift by completing the daily log and handing it to the coordinator.
  • 6Cycle clean gurneys and wheelchairs with disinfectant, and check oxygen levels, replacing tanks as needed.
  • 7Maintain the morgue, including refrigeration cleaning and postmortem transport support.
  • 8Run errands for departments like Medical Records and Blood Bank, and position wheelchairs and gurneys strategically.
  • 9Lead the use of specialized lift equipment and manage traction equipment in service areas.
  • 10Assist with patient ambulation and basic care like setting up trays or making beds.

Requirements10

  • 1High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • 21 year (1040 hours) experience as a Nursing Assistant, Hospital Technician, or in patient transport in an acute care setting.
  • 3BLS certification required at hire.
  • 4IAMTAC certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • 5Knowledge of body mechanics and lifting techniques for safe patient handling.
  • 6Ability to read, write, and follow English instructions.
  • 7Ability to prioritize and stay calm with conflicting demands.
  • 8Ability to communicate clearly with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • 9Ability to use the in-house computer system and write legibly.
  • 10Ability to work as a team member.
