Tour Guide Docent you will own the visitor experience at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. You will lead multiple tours daily, manage groups of 1-40+ guests, and ensure every visitor leaves with a memorable experience. You will operate the elevator, monitor security cameras, and assist with public and private events. This role demands adaptability as the job environment shifts between tours, events, and guest inquiries.

What You'll Do6

  • 1Give informative tours to all visitors, memorizing the script and adapting based on audience.
  • 2Manage crowds of 1-40+ visitors, ensuring safety and engagement throughout the tour.
  • 3Operate the elevator and open/close the building and exhibits as part of daily routine.
  • 4Respond to customer inquiries in person and over the phone with professionalism.
  • 5Assist with public and private events, helping ensure smooth operations.
  • 6Monitor security cameras and entrances/exits to maintain safety per protocol.

Requirements10

  • 1English proficiency required; a second language is a plus.
  • 2Highschool diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • 31+ years of customer service experience.
  • 4Comfortability with public speaking.
  • 5Reliable transportation and ability to live within 25 miles of the Memorial.
  • 6Available to work weekends and occasional evenings.
  • 7Able to walk/stand for extended periods (1 hour or longer).
  • 8Experience giving tours preferred.
  • 9Knowledge of early United States history preferred.
  • 10Knowledge of freemasonry preferred, and Point of Sale experience is a plus.
