Tool Maker 1 - CNC & Manual Machining
Overview
You will fabricate and repair medium to complex tooling for a leading optics manufacturer, supporting new product development and sustaining manufacturing. You will operate CNC and manual machine tools, interpret blueprints, and collaborate with tool engineers on design improvements. This hands-on role offers $32-$36/hour plus a $1,500 signing bonus, with training and advancement opportunities. What You'll Do7
- 1Analyze specifications and plan layout, setup, and assembly operations for tooling projects.
- 2Operate manual and CNC machine tools (lathe, milling machine, grinder) to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, and gages.
- 3Work from blueprints, sketches, models, and verbal instructions to build, rebuild, and modify tools and equipment.
- 4Compute dimensions, measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining, verifying conformance to specifications.
- 5Design and build simple tools, assist tool engineers with design improvements, and provide work tools and measurement devices.
- 6Plumb pneumatic components for fixturing and manage projects from start to finish.
- 7Train new employees or apprentices on tool making practices and procedures.
Requirements7
- 12+ years of related tool and die experience with a high school education or equivalent (or equivalent combination).
- 2Thorough working knowledge of tool and die making practices, designs, shop mathematics, GD&T, and metal properties.
- 3Ability to operate standard shop machine tools to tolerances of .0002".
- 4Knowledge of layout, machining, and tool assembly procedures.
- 5Previous CNC programming experience required.
- 6Computer literacy and familiarity with applicable CAM software.
- 7Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
