Overview

Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company, seeks a mid-level Test & Development Engineer II to independently deliver small projects, lead medium-sized efforts with limited guidance, and support large, complex programs. Working in the motorsports, defense, and mobility sectors, you will own the full test lifecycle from requirement translation through data acquisition and analysis. Coordinate Engineer I staff, interns, and lab technicians while serving as the primary technical contact for internal and external customers. This role offers hands-on experience with DEWESoft, MATLAB, Python, and Beckhoff PLCs in a product development environment that merges engineering rigor with high-performance testing.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Translate customer and program requirements into test objectives, acceptance criteria, test procedures, instrumentation plans, resource estimates, schedules, risks, and deliverables.
  • 2Serve as the primary technical contact for assigned testing projects, communicating status, decisions, risks, and results to internal and external customers.
  • 3Coordinate Engineer I employees, interns, and laboratory technicians through task prioritization, technical guidance, coaching, review, and constructive feedback.
  • 4Select, configure, integrate, calibrate, and troubleshoot data acquisition systems and instrumentation for acceleration, pressure, temperature, strain, force, torque, displacement, flow, and vehicle-network measurements, ensuring signal quality and data integrity.
  • 5Develop repeatable analysis workflows using DEWESoft, FlexPro, MATLAB, Python, or Microsoft Excel, verifying calibration status, channel quality, repeatability, and measurement uncertainty.
  • 6Design test fixtures and instrumentation integration kits using CAD/CAE tools and manufacturing-release practices.
  • 7Develop or modify test controls and automation using Beckhoff PLC, MATLAB/Simulink, MotoHawk, Delta Motion, or NI LabVIEW.
  • 8Execute research, development, and production-validation programs with controlled procedures, requirements traceability, configuration control, and auditable test records.
  • 9Analyze results, identify root causes, and prepare clear reports and presentations with limited review.
  • 10Support proposal development through technical scoping, labor and hardware estimates, and customer discussions for new or follow-on work.

Requirements10

  • 1BS or MS in Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Automotive, Mechatronics, or closely related engineering discipline; equivalent combinations considered.
  • 23-6 years of relevant engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of test, validation, product-development, or production-verification work.
  • 3Demonstrated proficiency in data acquisition, instrumentation, data analysis, technical reporting, and project execution.
  • 4Hands-on experience with DEWESoft and at least one additional data acquisition platform such as IPETRONIK, Pi, MoTeC, Vector, Somat, or National Instruments.
  • 5Strong FlexPro experience and working knowledge of MATLAB, DIAdem, nCode, Python, database tools, or advanced Microsoft Excel.
  • 6Experience designing strain-gage installations, calibration methods, and custom force or torque transducers.
  • 7Experience with PLC systems and controls platforms including MATLAB/Simulink, Beckhoff, MotoHawk, Delta Motion, or NI LabVIEW.
  • 8Experience with Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Jira/Confluence for collaboration and documentation.
  • 9Experience with production validation, controlled test procedures, requirements traceability, and configuration control.
  • 10Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and mentor less experienced interns and technicians.
