Overview
You will prepare and maintain the sterile field for surgical operations in a high-volume hospital setting. You will set up instruments, assist surgeons with gowning and gloving, drape patients, and anticipate surgeon needs during procedures. You will also support the surgical team by passing supplies, holding retractors, and managing equipment setup and maintenance. With 1+ year of experience, you will ensure safety and compliance with regulations to deliver optimal patient care. What You'll Do8
- 1Prepare the sterile field for each surgery, including arranging sterile instruments and supplies.
- 2Assist surgeons with gowning and gloving, and drape patients to maintain a sterile environment.
- 3Pass instruments and supplies during procedures, holding retractors and anticipating the surgeon's next move.
- 4Maintain and test surgical equipment, ensuring all tools are functional and ready for use.
- 5Distribute supplies to the department and manage inventory to support daily operations.
- 6Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, including privacy and safety protocols.
- 7Orient new staff to departmental procedures and assist with specific surgical tasks as needed.
- 8Document surgical procedures and ensure accurate records are maintained.
Requirements8
- 11+ year of recent relevant experience as a surgical technologist.
- 2Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or military training as a scrub tech.
- 3BLS Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification.
- 4Surgical Technician Certification (TS-C, CST, or NRST) required for incentive eligibility.
- 5HS Diploma or GED required.
- 6Ability to stand for long periods and handle physically demanding tasks.
- 7Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs.
- 8Knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical instrument handling.
