Certified Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Support
Overview
You will anticipate surgeon needs and manage the sterile field for scheduled and emergency procedures at a Tampa hospital. You join a team of Certified Surgical Technologists and RNs in a Level II Trauma Center. You keep sterile technique, pass instruments, and control the room during turnovers. You report to the OR Manager and work with general surgery, orthopedics, and robotics teams. You will cross-train in minimally invasive surgery and da Vinci Xi systems.
What You'll Do9
- 1Assemble all required supplies, equipment, and medications before each procedure, verifying sterility and expiration dates.
- 2Anticipate the surgeon's next step and pass instruments, sponges, and sutures in a sterile field.
- 3Monitor the surgical team's aseptic technique and correct any breaks in sterile protocol immediately.
- 4Prepare the operating room for each case, including surgical tables, lighting, and draping.
- 5Assist in room turnover by directing ancillary staff to clean and restock between surgeries.
- 6Document intraoperative procedures, counts, and patient data in the electronic health record.
- 7Support the orientation and training of new surgical technologists and students.
- 8Follow CDC isolation guidelines and use PPE to prevent infection.
- 9Participate in performance improvement initiatives and departmental quality audits.
Requirements10
- 11+ years of relevant surgical technologist experience.
- 2CPR Certification (American Heart Association or equivalent).
- 3Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
- 4Current Certified Surgical Technologist credential from NBSTSA.
- 5Knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instruments, and sterilization methods.
- 6Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- 7Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- 8High school diploma or GED.
- 9Flexibility to work day shifts, weekends, and call rotations.
- 10Strong communication skills with surgeons, nurses, and patients.
