Overview

The Perinatal Surgical Technologist 2 reports to a Nurse Director while also taking direction from the Labor and Delivery Clinical Advisor and Registered Nurses. This role involves supporting the surgical team by performing direct and indirect tasks that contribute to quality care for patients undergoing surgical procedures. It is an integral part of the unit-based care delivery team providing technical components essential to patient care. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining a sterile field monitoring sterile technique assisting surgeons with instrument handling and drape preparation ensuring supply cost-effectiveness and maintaining confidentiality. The position requires a Certified Surgical Technologist credential and 1-3 years related work experience.

- 1Creates and maintains a sterile field
- 2Monitors sterile technique in all areas of practice
- 3Utilizes equipment and instruments for complex procedures
- 4Anticipates surgical team needs and assists with retractor holding suctioning cutting sutures and draping
- 5Accountable for supplies equipment and environmental support
- 6Drapes all equipment in a sterile fashion
- 7Identifies specimens for processing by circulating nurse
- 8Assists with instrument counting and sharp management
- 9Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization
- 10Removes soiled instruments and equipment
- 11Safeguards patient privacy and maintains confidentiality
- 12Maintains stock in operating room supply carts and specialty carts
- 13Recognizes and reports kit or equipment problems
- 14Assists in developing corrective action plans
- 15Contributes to unit cleanliness and order
- 16Returns kits and supplies to proper areas
- 17Supports surgical team with technical components
Requirements9
- 1High School diploma or GED
- 2Certificate 1 Surgical Technologist (CST)
- 3Certificate 2 Basic Life Support
- 41-3 years related work experience
- 5Graduate of accredited surgical technologist program or US Military/PHS training
- 6Certified surgical technologist credential from nationally recognized agency
- 7Annual mandatory education maintenance
- 8Basic computer familiarity
- 9Web application navigation proficiency
