Overview
You will own cost estimates for structural steel projects up to 10,000+ tons, from bid review to proposal delivery. You join a 20+ year Pacific Northwest leader with a 122,000 sq ft facility, working with project management and production to set budgets. Your estimates drive project wins and profitability. Unlike larger firms, you build relationships with vendors and clients monthly, with direct impact. Tekla modeling and Blue Beam are your daily tools.
What You'll Do9
- 1Review RFI bid documents, design drawings, and scope of work to define bid strategy.
- 2Create take-off lists from fabrication and erection drawings, quantifying material and labor.
- 3Input take-offs into Excel spreadsheets, maintaining accuracy for cost models.
- 4Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors, and current material pricing for steel.
- 5Deliver itemized bid proposals with accurate price and schedule, ready 24 hours before bid deadline.
- 6Research competitor pricing to refine your bid position.
- 7Work with project management and production at award to transfer knowledge and set budgets.
- 8Keep bid log current and contact repeat customers monthly to secure opportunities.
- 9Use Tekla and Blue Beam for quantity take-offs and drawing review.
Requirements7
- 12+ years in steel fabrication or erection estimating.
- 2High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3Proficiency with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- 4Working knowledge of Blue Beam or PDF mark-up tools.
- 5Tekla modeling or equivalent estimating software is a plus.
- 6Strong written and oral communication for client and vendor interactions.
- 7Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple bid deadlines.
