Field Engineer, Structural Steel Construction
Overview
As a Field Engineer at Kinsley Steel, you will own precision and accuracy on structural steel projects across Washington, DC. You will collect and present field data using Trimble and CAD, ensuring building control lines, column placement, and anchor rod locations meet exact specifications. You will work onsite with a certified team that has delivered quality steel since 1985, collaborating with other trades to maintain plumbness and square. This role demands travel to job sites, comfort at heights, and a strong safety culture.
What You'll Do7
- 1Collect and present accurate field data with Trimble equipment, establishing building control lines and column placement.
- 2Travel to job sites to verify elevation and alignment of embeds, delivering as-built drawings with CAD and Bluebeam.
- 3Create anchor rod surveys and provide alignment data for column and steel installation.
- 4Maintain building plumbness and square, coordinating with other trades for accurate steel placement.
- 5Assist with miscellaneous steel placement including monumental stair and shaft steel.
- 6Coordinate crane beam installation and steel that affects other trades' work placement and accuracy.
- 7Promote a strong safety culture, emphasizing Safety, Quality, and Production on every project.
Requirements8
- 1Prior experience in structural steel erection preferred.
- 2Experience surveying slopes, grades, and wall lines for miscellaneous metals.
- 3Knowledge of using a total station or similar surveying equipment.
- 4Availability to travel to field sites.
- 5Ability to work at heights in an aerial lift or on elevated steel floors, adhering to safety protocols.
- 6Thorough understanding of AISC requirements for building orientation and alignment.
- 7Exceptional attention to detail for accurate data collection and building control lines.
- 8Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and subcontractors.
