Overview
North Shore Steel seeks a Structural Pipe Fitter to own fit-up and assembly of structural pipe and pressure vessel components on the Night Shift (6 PM - 6 AM) in Houston, Texas. You will interpret blueprints, prepare joints, and ensure dimensional accuracy to meet AWS and ASME code requirements. Working with a team of welders and quality inspectors, you will deliver code-compliant results. What You'll Do9
- 1Read blueprints, drawings, and weld symbols to determine fit-up requirements.
- 2Measure, cut, and prepare materials to specified dimensions for structural pipe and plate components.
- 3Perform precision fit-up for weld joints, including gap, bevel, and alignment per AWS and ASME codes.
- 4Use grinders, torches, levels, and measuring devices to shape and verify components.
- 5Verify dimensions, tolerances, and alignment before welding to prevent rework.
- 6Collaborate with welders and quality inspectors to ensure code-compliant results.
- 7Identify and correct fit-up issues before welding begins, maintaining safety standards.
- 8Maintain tools and equipment in safe working condition and keep work area organized.
- 9Support NDE-quality welding operations by ensuring precise fit-up for inspection readiness.
Requirements9
- 1Proven experience as a pipe fitter or structural fitter in an industrial environment.
- 2Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
- 3Solid understanding of fit-up tolerances, joint preparation, and alignment.
- 4Experience working with pipe, plate, or structural steel components.
- 5Accurate use of measuring tools such as tape, level, and square.
- 6High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- 7Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- 8Strong work ethic and reliability in a production environment.
