Store Manager, Retail Operations & Inventory
Overview
You will own all store operations at a Dollar General location in Nashville, Tennessee, serving thousands of customers each week. You will lead a team of 5-15 employees, overseeing every process from recruiting and training to merchandising and financial integrity. You will be the direct link between the corporate office and the store floor, ensuring policies are executed and sales goals are met. IBM cash systems, BSR inventory tools, and SAFE security programs will be your daily toolkit. This role demands hands-on leadership: you will personally open and close the store each week, coach your team, and make data-driven decisions from operating statements.
What You'll Do10
- 1Hire, train, and schedule a full staff of hourly associates to meet 5+ opening and closing shifts per week, ensuring the store never runs understaffed during peak hours
- 2Open and close the store a minimum of two times per week, including cash reconciliation, alarm setup, and store walk-throughs to catch safety hazards
- 3Review weekly operating statements to identify shrink trends, labor overspend, and sales shortfalls, then adjust ordering and staffing to hit budget
- 4Place product orders through BSR to maintain in-stock targets above 90% for top-selling consumables and seasonal items
- 5Coordinate the staging and stocking of truck deliveries using handheld scanners and U-boats, ensuring inventory flows from backroom to shelf within 24 hours
- 6Train your team on IBM register functions, cashier accountability, and proper checkout procedures to reduce cash variances to <$5 per day
- 7Enforce company security standards, including key control and SAFE program compliance, to keep store shrink below 2% of sales
- 8Coach associates through performance reviews and conduct corrective action when needed, following federal labor laws and company policy
- 9Delegate daily task lists and follow up on completion, so the store meets Dollar General restocking standards every day
- 10Model superior customer service by greeting shoppers, handling returns, and de-escalating complaints at checkout
Requirements10
- 11+ year managing retail store operations, including hiring, scheduling, and inventory control
- 2High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree preferred
- 3IBM cash register experience, including running reports and balancing drawers
- 4Knowledge of BSR replenishment systems to analyze inventory and adjust orders
- 5Ability to lift 40 pounds regularly and 55 pounds occasionally from floor to waist
- 6Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for bank deposits and manager meetings
- 7Familiarity with SAFE program and loss prevention practices, with a track record of controlling shrink
- 8Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for analyzing sales and labor data
- 9Clean background check and drug screen as required by company policy
- 10Bilingual Spanish is a plus, but not required for the role
