Staff Engineer, Water Resources & Hydraulic Design
Overview
You will own the hydraulic and hydrologic analysis for water infrastructure projects across California, from planning through design and operation. Our small, specialized firm has spent 35 years building inclusive teams where engineers at every level grow their careers. You will work alongside senior engineers on HEC-RAS, EPA SWMM, and AutoCAD Civil 3D models. What sets this role apart: direct client interaction and project ownership from day one.
What You'll Do7
- 1Build HEC-RAS models for floodplain mapping and bridge scour analysis in the first 90 days.
- 2Design stormwater management systems using EPA SWMM and Civil 3D for municipal clients.
- 3Lead the preparation of hydraulic reports and permit applications for California statewide projects.
- 4Own the hydrology studies for detention basins and culvert sizing, delivering results within project timelines.
- 5Coordinate with surveyors and designers to produce construction plans for water infrastructure.
- 6Drive the quality assurance of design calculations and drawings, ensuring compliance with local codes.
- 7Present technical findings to clients and regulatory agencies, simplifying complex models for stakeholders.
Requirements7
- 12+ years of California work experience in water resources engineering.
- 22+ years applying Hydraulics and Hydrology principles to infrastructure projects.
- 3Proficiency in HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or EPA SWMM for modeling.
- 4Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D for grading and pipe networks.
- 5EIT certification with the ability to obtain PE within 12 months.
- 6Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- 7Familiarity with California regulations including CEQA and NPDES permits.
