Staff Embedded Engineer, Robotics Firmware
Overview
You will lead embedded software for autonomous robots that speed critical infrastructure buildout, starting with data centers. You will own board bring-up and low-level communication stacks across CAN, SPI, and I2C, working with mechanical, electrical, and ML teams to set new reliability standards for our fleet. You will architect HIL test rigs to catch edge-case hardware faults early. This role pairs deep technical ownership with international collaboration with CMs and OEMs.
What You'll Do7
- 1Lead initial board bring-up for new robot hardware, writing drivers that directly touch raw MCUs and actuators.
- 2Build reliable Hardware Abstraction Layers (HAL) to abstract sensor and actuator control across multiple board revisions.
- 3Architect and automate hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test rigs to validate electromechanical systems for safety and reliability.
- 4Partner with CMs and OEMs to drive spec discovery, influence board layout, and lead early silicon bring-up and validation.
- 5Own the communication stack, fine-tuning low-level bus protocols (I2C, SPI, CAN) to handle high-frequency telemetry.
- 6Debug and resolve complex system-level issues involving firmware, hardware, and real-time constraints.
- 7Drive architectural bets for firmware scalability, supporting multiple robot platforms and sensor modalities.
Requirements6
- 15+ years building bare-metal firmware or low-level systems code in deeply resource-constrained environments.
- 2Deep expertise with CAN, SPI, and I2C bus design, implementation, and debugging.
- 3Proven track record building and operating HIL test infrastructure to catch edge-case hardware faults early.
- 4Experience interfacing directly with CMs/OEMs to resolve ambiguous requirements and evaluate silicon alternatives.
- 5Strong C and C++ skills for embedded development, with proficiency in reading schematics and datasheets.
- 6Familiarity with RTOS or bare-metal scheduling for real-time control loops.
