Overview

Muon Space seeks a Staff Architect to define and evolve the end-to-end architecture of its onboard High Performance Compute platform. You will be the technical center of gravity across FPGA GPU CPU and onboard networking shaping a mission-flexible compute platform for long-term spacecraft use. This hybrid role involves on-site work in San Jose three days weekly.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Own the architecture process for Onboard High Performance Compute including proposing discussing documenting and ratifying architectural decisions across the team.
  • 2Cluster and unify architectural concepts into a coherent documented company-wide HPC architecture.
  • 3Gather architectural requirements from payload mission ops and program management translating them into a forward-looking compute roadmap.
  • 4Drive cross-discipline alignment across FPGA GPU and CPU compute with onboard networking achieving consensus on data flows processing pipelines and compute partitioning.
  • 5Champion a network-first onboard architecture with modular configurable compute components for mission-specific instantiation.
  • 6Partner with EE team to ensure architectural decisions are executable in silicon PCB and harness design.
  • 7Communicate architecture through diagrams design docs white papers and tech talks to build a shared mental model.
  • 8Stay ahead of mission needs evolving the technical lineup to meet objectives without one-off architectures.
  • 9Maintain a U.S. security clearance and communicate effectively with technical and executive audiences.

Requirements6

  • 1Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering Computer Science Electrical Engineering or related field with 7+ years of professional experience in system-level or compute-platform architecture.
  • 2Proven track record architecting heterogeneous compute systems combining FPGA GPU and CPU elements in embedded aerospace or high-performance edge environments.
  • 3Deep understanding of onboard networking and data-flow architectures including Ethernet fabrics DMA zero-copy and real-time streaming pipelines.
  • 4Ability to balance architectural purity with mission pragmatism designing for flexibility and reuse across many missions while shipping immediate needs.
  • 5Demonstrated experience driving cross-team architectural consensus across hardware firmware and software disciplines.
  • 6Excellent written and verbal communication skills producing architecture documents and roadmaps for technical and executive audiences.
