Own the mechanical design and analysis of optical assemblies for development and flight hardware at scale within a multi-disciplinary seeker engineering team. Drive STOP and SILOS analyses to ensure optical performance under flight conditions. Collaborate with optical, systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams to deliver producible designs that meet stringent environmental requirements. This role offers hands-on design, analysis, and verification in a high-reliability environment.

What You'll Do8

  • 1Build mechanical designs of optical assemblies, mounts, and structures for imaging and sensing systems
  • 2Perform STOP and SILOS analyses to validate performance under environmental conditions
  • 3Develop parametric 3D CAD models and detailed drawings with documentation
  • 4Collaborate with optical, systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams to refine requirements and ensure producibility
  • 5Lead environmental test planning, execution, and correlation of analysis with test results
  • 6Present technical findings in design reviews and support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
  • 7Assist with development and maintenance of error budgets for optomechanical performance
  • 8Support prototype and production hardware updates and design improvements

Requirements10

  • 1Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline with 8 years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years
  • 2Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • 3Extensive experience with opto-mechanical or precision electro-mechanical design and integration
  • 4Familiarity with structural and thermal analysis methods and STOP/SILOS concepts (ANSYS mechanical preferred)
  • 5Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (CREO, NX, SolidWorks; NX experience preferred)
  • 6Experience with optical imaging systems (visible through LWIR) and mounting/alignment impacts
  • 7Knowledge of ISO MIL-STD and other industry standards
  • 8Strong technical communication with ability to document and present results
  • 9Hands-on experience with STOP and SILOS modeling workflows and integration with optical design tools
  • 10Experience with EO systems including tolerance analysis and DOE support
