Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Satellite Propulsion
Overview
Own the mechanical and thermal design of satellite propulsion hardware at Xona Space, taking systems from concept through flight production. As the lead architect on Pulsar, the world's most advanced PNT satellite infrastructure, you will drive CAD, FEA, and prototyping with cross-functional teams. This role offers high ownership and hands-on lab work, delivering ultra-reliable hardware into orbit.
What You'll Do8
- 1Lead propulsion system and supporting hardware design, from architecture to flight production.
- 2Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) with machine shops and vendors for high-precision components.
- 3Select materials for high-temperature, high-vacuum environments, and specify processing and treatments.
- 4Perform structural and thermal analysis (FEA) to evaluate margins under launch and operational loads.
- 5Build, assemble, and iterate on prototype hardware, including TVAC integration.
- 6Develop and execute test plans for prototypes, engineering models, and flight hardware.
- 7Define inspection, acceptance, and assembly procedures for production.
- 8Evaluate and select suppliers for mechanical and thermal components.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor's or Master's in mechanical engineering or related field.
- 25+ years leading mechanical hardware design from concept to production.
- 3Strong DFM experience working directly with machinists and vendors.
- 4Expert-level GD&T and tolerance analysis (ASME Y14.5).
- 5Deep knowledge of refractory metals, ceramics, and heat treatment processes.
- 6Proficiency in SolidWorks and FEA for structural and thermal analysis.
- 7Prototyping-first mindset with hands-on build and test capability.
- 8Ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
