Overview
As Lead Production Technician at Xona, you own spacecraft assembly, integration, and test in our new San Francisco facility, guiding a team to meet quality and schedule targets. You work hands-on with IPC-A-610 standards and ESD-safe practices, while coordinating daily stand-ups and training. Your leadership directly shapes the production floor culture and the scale-up of Pulsar satellites. This role combines technical mastery with mentorship, making you the linchpin for repeatable, high-quality spacecraft builds.
What You'll Do8
- 1Coordinate daily production activities to meet schedule and quality standards, leading stand-ups and cross-training team members.
- 2Assemble satellite components and subsystems, including electrical harnesses and mechanical structures, using digital work instructions and GD&T drawings.
- 3Perform cable routing, thermal insulation, soldering, bonding, and torque-controlled fastener installation, with anomaly detection and repair.
- 4Operate production equipment like environmental chambers, deployment fixtures, and vibration/test systems for thermal cycling and 3D printing.
- 5Inspect PCBs and assemblies to IPC-A-610 criteria, and run functional/continuity tests with multimeters, ohmmeters, and oscilloscopes.
- 6Maintain 5S/FOD protocols, QA benches, and fixtures, and implement improvements to assembly processes for efficiency and quality.
- 7Measure, record, and document data during complex assembly, ensuring traceability and compliance with quality standards.
- 8Lead by example in safety and ESD protection, sustaining a cleanroom-like environment throughout builds.
Requirements8
- 110+ years hands-on mechanical or electrical assembly experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, or electronics.
- 25+ years in a lead technician role with proven coaching and coordination skills.
- 3Proficiency in reading schematics, mechanical drawings, and assembly instructions with GD&T understanding.
- 4Skilled with hand tools, torque tools, and PCB test equipment: multimeters, ohmmeters, DC power supplies, oscilloscopes.
- 5Experience operating production machinery including environmental chambers, vibration test, and lifting equipment.
- 6Comfortable with sensitive electronics and small mechanical parts, and detail-oriented in fast-paced settings.
- 7Current or past certification in IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or IPC/WHMA-A-620 (bonus).
- 8Must be U.S. citizen, green card holder, or protected individual per ITAR regulations.
