Lead Production Technician - Satellite Assembly | Xona Space
Overview
Xona-Space seeks a hands-on Lead Production Technician to drive satellite build, test, and integration at our San Francisco facility. You will own the production floor, coordinating daily activities to meet schedule and quality goals for Pulsar spacecraft. Working with production, manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams, you will train and mentor technicians while setting the standard for ESD-safe assembly. This is a high-visibility role with direct impact as we scale to repeatable, high-quality production.
What You'll Do7
- 1Coordinate daily production activities to meet schedule and quality standards, running stand-ups and cross-training team members.
- 2Assemble and integrate satellite components and subsystems, including electrical harnesses and mechanical structures, per digital work instructions.
- 3Perform cable routing, thermal insulation application, and spacecraft-level tasks such as soldering, bonding, and torque-controlled fastener installation.
- 4Conduct PCB handling and in-process inspection to IPC-A-610 workmanship criteria, plus functional and continuity testing.
- 5Measure, record, and document test data during assembly, detecting anomalies and driving repair or resolution.
- 6Maintain production equipment, 5S/FOD protocols, test benches, and fixtures to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient floor.
- 7Collaborate with engineering to refine assembly instructions, improving quality and build efficiency.
Requirements9
- 110+ years hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical assembly (space, aerospace, defense, robotics, automotive, electronics).
- 25+ years in a lead role, coaching and coordinating production technicians.
- 3Ability to read schematics, mechanical drawings, and assembly instructions with basic GD&T.
- 4Proficiency with hand tools, torque tools, and test equipment: multimeters, ohmmeters, DC power supplies, oscilloscopes.
- 5Experience operating production equipment: environmental chambers, deployment fixtures, lifting equipment, vibration/shock/thermal cycling testers, 3D printers.
- 6Comfort working with sensitive electronics and small mechanical components.
- 7Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- 8Bonus: IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 certification; IPC/WHMA-A-620 harness certification.
- 9U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required for ITAR compliance.
