Sr. Accountant, Inventory & Close
Overview
Own the monthly close and general ledger for a high-volume inventory operation in Chicago. You will drive 5+ years of accounting expertise into cash, receivables, fixed assets, leases, and bulk wine inventory. Partner with finance and operations to deliver accurate reporting in a manual, hands-on environment. This contract role offers direct ownership of close activities and inventory reconciliations, with visibility into production-heavy accounting workflows.
What You'll Do7
- 1Lead monthly close activities and finalize the GL within deadlines, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- 2Prepare and review journal entries and supporting docs to confirm completeness and accuracy for cash, receivables, and fixed assets.
- 3Deliver reporting packages on schedule by building and maintaining schedules in Excel.
- 4Manage inventory accounting tasks, including bulk wine records, verifying quantities and values, and investigating discrepancies.
- 5Support priority inventory reconciliations and maintain schedules for lease and fixed asset accounting.
- 6Partner with operations and finance to resolve variances and improve timeliness of financial data.
- 7Learn manual workflows quickly and execute close tasks with limited automation, ensuring subledger accuracy.
Requirements7
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including senior-level close and GL work.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3Strong background in month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- 4Experience with inventory accounting, especially high-volume product environments like consumer goods or beverage.
- 5Knowledge of accounting for cash, receivables, fixed assets, leases, and inventory.
- 6Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.
- 7Ability to work independently, adapt to manual processes, and meet tight deadlines in a production-driven setting.
Salary Insight
