Overview

As a Sign Language Interpreter at Sorenson, you will deliver Video Relay Service (VRS) interpreting between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English for Deaf and hearing callers across the U.S. and Canada. You will work in a dedicated VRS center in Boston, supporting a 24/7/365 service with flexible shifts from Monday through Saturday. What You'll Do10

  • 1Interpret between ASL and spoken English during live video calls within your first week, ensuring accurate and neutral relay of conversation.
  • 2Comply with FCC regulations, the RID Code of Professional Conduct, and all Sorenson policies and standards from day one.
  • 3Maintain national, state, and local licensure and certification requirements, including any renewals and continuing education.
  • 4Complete assigned paperwork and documentation accurately and within approved guidelines each shift.
  • 5Adapt to changing technologies and rapidly learn new interpreting software and tools for VRS platforms.
  • 6Collaborate with a team of interpreters, offering and receiving support during calls and team huddles.
  • 7Work in a monitored environment that includes call reviews and mentoring to continuously improve interpretation quality.
  • 8Accrue Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through Sorenson's training sessions and external workshops.
  • 9Manage a flexible schedule that meets the high-volume demands of the VRS industry, including at least one weekend shift.
  • 10Support the 24/7/365 service by covering shifts during peak hours, ensuring callers always have access.

Requirements10

  • 13 years of professional interpreting experience (preferred but not required).
  • 2Interpreter certification as required by local regulations.
  • 3High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 4Pass Sorenson's required skills assessment for ASL and spoken English.
  • 5Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse for extended periods.
  • 6Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues with VRS equipment and software.
  • 7Regular and predictable attendance, including availability for shifts Monday-Saturday 7am-7pm MT.
  • 8Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, highly regulated customer service environment.
  • 9Willingness to adhere to the RID Code of Professional Conduct and Sorenson policies.
  • 10Successful completion of background check and any required state or federal clearances.
