Shelter Staff Support Clinician, Trauma & Crisis Intervention
Overview
You will support shelter staff at Pine Street Inn's Yawkey House, a 24/7 emergency shelter in Boston, to foster a safe and healthy environment for guests and staff. Your primary focus is training and supporting direct care staff on techniques to minimize secondary trauma, and you may respond to guests in crisis to support staff and clinical teams. You will collaborate with shelter leadership and other departments to advocate for appropriate care services, and you will work 100% on site with a schedule of Wednesday-Saturday, 10:15 am-8:15 pm, with one early shift per week. This role is essential during weather and other emergencies, and offers a salary of $60,000-$80,000 annually. You will navigate emergency safety procedures with a professional prioritization of guest and staff needs, and you will be a key resource for staff well-being in a high-pressure environment.
What You'll Do9
- 1Train shelter staff on trauma-informed techniques and methods to minimize secondary trauma, using motivational interviewing and de-escalation strategies.
- 2Support direct care staff in fostering healthy helping relationships with guests, providing real-time coaching and guidance during shifts.
- 3Respond to guests in crisis to support shelter staff and PSI clinical teams, applying crisis intervention skills to stabilize situations.
- 4Collaborate with shelter staff and leadership to advocate for appropriate level of care services for guests, coordinating with other PSI clinical departments.
- 5Lead group debriefs and one-on-one sessions for staff to process critical incidents and build resilience, using your knowledge of trauma and secondary trauma.
- 6Navigate emergency safety procedures during weather and other emergencies, prioritizing guest and staff needs while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
- 7Administer Narcan and CPR as needed in the shelter setting, and train staff on these life-saving techniques as part of your duties.
- 8Develop and deliver training modules for direct care staff on crisis intervention, de-escalation, and mental health support, tailoring content to staff skill levels.
- 9Document all interventions and training activities in accordance with PSI policies, ensuring accurate records for continuity of care and quality improvement.
Requirements9
- 1Master's degree in Social Work or a related field.
- 23+ years of experience in the Human Services field, with emphasis on shelter or residential settings.
- 3Knowledge in the areas of trauma, addiction, secondary trauma, grief support, recovery, and mental illness.
- 4Demonstrated skills in motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques.
- 5Ability to administer Narcan and CPR in a work setting (preferred).
- 6Licensure as an LMHC or LICSW (preferred).
- 7Knowledge of issues pertaining to homelessness and local resources (preferred).
- 8Bilingual in English/Spanish/Haitian Creole (preferred).
- 9Experience in training direct care staff in crisis intervention and de-escalation (preferred).
