Sewing Department Supervisor
Overview
You will own production output for GSP's Sewing Department, leading a team of operators who craft hanging signs and panels on commercial sewing machines for retail displays. In a high-volume facility, you'll plan workflows, ensure quality, and coordinate with other departments to hit shipping deadlines. This role blends hands-on machine work with leadership, and we'll train you on the equipment. It's a chance to drive measurable results in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
What You'll Do10
- 1Plan and organize daily workflow to meet customer ship deadlines
- 2Supervise the sewing team's output, monitoring production metrics
- 3Coordinate with other departments on cross-functional workflow
- 4Ensure all work is accurate, timely, and meets quality standards before packaging
- 5Assemble panels and borders per work instructions, sewing borders, trims, and decorative seams
- 6Operate sewing machines using foot lever and hand control, selecting seam styles per order specs
- 7Align fabric, backing, aluminum stays, elastic, Velcro, and follow seams/edges/markings
- 8Sew parts with vertical or straight stitches, trimming excess threads and edges
- 9Use gauges to verify stitch placement, measure and cut textiles to design specs
- 10Perform quality inspections on all seams, repair weaknesses, and maintain a clean workstation
Requirements10
- 12+ years in a production environment required
- 2Preferred prior experience in sewing/textile industry using related machines
- 3Ability to lead and manage production line workers, preferably in sewing
- 4Knowledge of sewing methods, procedures, and practices
- 5Ability to plan sewing production workflow and staffing
- 6Strong oral and written communication skills
- 7Ability to prioritize, multi-task, manage time, and meet shifting deadlines
- 8Uncompromising attention to detail
- 9Ability to sit or stand for 10+ hour periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- 10Ability to read, write, and understand English; bilingual a plus
