Overview

As a Service Access Team Leader at Duke Health, you will oversee patient registration and access workflows across a high-volume clinic, ensuring accurate data entry, insurance verification, and point-of-service collections. Reporting to the Service Access Manager, you will lead a team of Patient Service Associates, coach performance, and manage daily operations from check-in to check-out. This role merges hands-on registration duties with supervisory responsibilities, positioning you to improve patient experience and operational efficiency. You will work onsite in Raleigh, NC, within a fully integrated revenue cycle organization.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Manage daily patient registration, including identification, demographic and insurance updates, check-in, and check-out, using EPIC and other systems.
  • 2Lead point-of-service collections for deductibles, copays, and balances, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • 3Oversee clinic work queues, clearing missing registration items and handling referral and order workflows.
  • 4Coach and counsel team members on performance, providing guidance on customer service and telephone etiquette.
  • 5Prepare for clinic by reviewing the Department Appointment Report (DAR) and completing prior preparation activities.
  • 6Implement process improvements to maximize efficiency, communicating opportunities to management.
  • 7Coordinate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak times.
  • 8Maintain a professional and patient-friendly environment, safeguarding privacy and confidentiality.
  • 9Perform other related clerical duties as assigned by the Service Access Manager.

Requirements8

  • 14+ years in a healthcare setting, with supervisory skills preferred.
  • 2High school diploma required; associate's degree in healthcare or business substitutes for two years of experience, bachelor's degree for four years.
  • 36+ months of data entry experience and basic PC skills.
  • 4Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.
  • 5Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to interact tactfully.
  • 6Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • 7Entry-level coaching and performance evaluation skills.
  • 8Ability to apply departmental policies for patient information verification, payment collection, and record maintenance.
