Senior TSMO Engineer, Transportation Operations & ITS
Overview
You will lead TSMO initiatives across regional and corridor-level projects, driving safety, mobility, and reliability improvements for a global infrastructure firm. You'll partner with agencies, local governments, and stakeholders to implement ITS deployments, traffic signal optimization, and work zone strategies. Own performance measurement with Power BI and GIS dashboards. This role offers technical leadership and the chance to shape transportation systems that impact communities.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead corridor-level TSMO initiatives, applying engineering principles to traffic operations and safety.
- 2Develop performance measures and KPIs to monitor system reliability, using data to prioritize improvements.
- 3Analyze crash trends and mobility data with GIS and Power BI to identify high-impact projects.
- 4Manage ITS planning and deployment, ensuring systems operate reliably and integrate with agency networks.
- 5Coordinate traffic signal timing and optimization programs, improving corridor flow and safety.
- 6Design work zone management plans that balance safety and mobility, with stakeholder input.
- 7Drive TIM program improvements, training responders on incident clearance and interagency protocols.
- 8Build dashboards that translate operational data into clear stories for decision-makers.
- 9Evaluate connected vehicle technologies and recommend pilot deployments for future readiness.
- 10Prepare funding justifications and technical reports that secure project approval and budget.
Requirements10
- 110+ years in transportation operations, traffic engineering, TSMO, or ITS fields.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- 3Professional Engineer registration in North Carolina or ability to gain within 6 months.
- 4Master's degree preferred in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- 5Experience with traffic signal optimization and coordination.
- 6Hands-on data analysis using Power BI, GIS, or Tableau.
- 7Track record managing safety programs and reducing crashes.
- 8Knowledge of TIM and work zone safety strategies.
- 9Familiarity with connected and automated vehicle applications.
- 10Proven ability to coordinate with DOTs, local agencies, and emergency responders.
Salary Insight
$140 - $180k per year
