Overview

As a Senior Systems Software Engineer at Saronic, you will design and build software for autonomous surface vessels. You will own the NixOS-based systems that power navigation, control, and communication, impacting vessels operating in real-world maritime environments. You will collaborate with hardware engineers and cross-functional teams to integrate software with vessel systems. This role requires deep expertise in C/C++ or Rust, embedded Linux, and networking. You will tackle unique challenges of low bandwidth and high latency, ensuring robust performance at sea.

What You'll Do9

  • 1Design, develop, and maintain software systems using NixOS for autonomous navigation, control, and communication of autonomous surface vessels.
  • 2Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with vessel systems, ensuring seamless operation.
  • 3Implement algorithms for controls and sensor fusion to enhance vessel autonomy.
  • 4Optimize network communications for low bandwidth/high latency environments.
  • 5Conduct software testing and validation to ensure reliability, robustness, and performance in real-world maritime environments.
  • 6Participate in code reviews and maintain high coding standards, ensuring scalability and maintainability of software.
  • 7Troubleshoot and debug complex software issues, providing timely resolutions.
  • 8Document software designs, processes, and test results for compliance and knowledge sharing.
  • 9Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in autonomous systems.

Requirements11

  • 1Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 23+ years (Senior) or 8+ years (Staff) of software engineering experience, preferably in autonomous systems or robotics.
  • 3Programming experience in C/C++ or Rust.
  • 4Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns.
  • 5Experience with embedded Linux systems and embedded software development.
  • 6Experience with low-level serial protocols (e.g., RS-232, CAN) is a plus.
  • 7Understanding of networking principles and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP) is a plus.
  • 8Familiarity with sensors, control systems, and maritime operations is a plus.
  • 9Knowledge of DoD standards and regulations related to software development is advantageous.
  • 10Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • 11Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
