Senior RF Coexistence Engineer - GM Detroit
Overview
You will own coexistence and desense performance for GM's next-generation multi-radio systems, ensuring seamless operation of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE/5G, and GNSS in real-world vehicle scenarios. You will integrate coex expertise early in design and validation cycles, working with cross-functional teams on RF, PCB, and SoC architectures. This senior individual contributor role drives in-house design (IHD) strategy, reducing late-stage supplier fixes and enabling faster iteration. You will bridge hardware realities with protocol behavior, shaping the future of software-defined vehicles.
What You'll Do8
- 1Own coexistence and desense performance for assigned systems, identifying risks and opportunities in early design phases.
- 2Develop and implement multi-radio coexistence solutions within vehicle architectures, analyzing throughput, latency, and scheduling inefficiencies.
- 3Lead root-cause investigations of coexistence issues, debugging across RF front-end, baseband, and system scheduling layers.
- 4Drive design-for-coexistence frameworks, covering PCB layout, antenna placement, shielding, and timing strategies.
- 5Execute coexistence validation plans, using UXM, CMX, MT8000A, and CMW500 for OTA and conducted tests.
- 6Influence system design decisions on antenna isolation, RF front-end architecture, and clocking to improve performance.
- 7Collaborate with firmware and software teams on coexistence algorithms, arbitration, and frequency hopping.
- 8Serve as a go-to coex expert, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to in-house guidelines and technical reviews.
Requirements8
- 1M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field (PhD preferred).
- 26-10 years of RF/wireless engineering experience with strong emphasis on coexistence.
- 3Deep understanding of multi-radio interference mechanisms and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE/5G protocol interactions.
- 4Hands-on experience with UXM, CMX, MT8000A, CMW500, and OTA coexistence test setups.
- 5Proficiency with RF simulation tools like CST, HFSS, or FEKO.
- 6Proven system-level debugging and data-driven analysis skills.
- 7Familiarity with automotive wireless systems (infotainment, telematics) and consumer electronics.
- 8Experience with firmware-driven coexistence algorithms and protocol analyzers.
