Senior Prototype Machinist, CNC & Precision Machining
Overview
You will own the build of precision engineering prototypes and low-volume components at Brooks Instrument, a leader in flow and pressure instrumentation. Working with minimal supervision, you'll set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders, including Haas and Bridgeport equipment, to fabricate complex parts from engineering drawings. You'll collaborate with engineers to improve designs for manufacturability and support the model shop's project milestones. This role offers direct impact on new product development in a global, fortune 200 environment.
What You'll Do7
- 1Machine precision engineering prototypes and components for new product development programs, operating CNC and conventional equipment.
- 2Set up and operate Haas CNC lathes and mills, including writing and modifying G-code and using the Haas Intuitive Programming System.
- 3Operate the EZ Trak system on Bridgeport milling machines for prototype and low-volume parts.
- 4Analyze engineering drawings, sketches, and specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
- 5Collaborate with engineers to develop unique prototype parts, fixtures, and tooling, recommending design enhancements for manufacturability.
- 6Verify finished workpieces using precision measuring equipment like comparators, calipers, and micrometers.
- 7Manage work priorities and schedules to support project milestones while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Requirements10
- 18+ years of progressively responsible machining experience, or equivalent combination of education and training.
- 2Completion of a recognized machining apprenticeship or trade program preferred.
- 3Demonstrated experience setting up and operating conventional and CNC mills and lathes.
- 4Experience programming CNC equipment using G-code required.
- 5Experience with Haas CNC equipment and the Haas Intuitive Programming System strongly preferred.
- 6Experience machining prototypes, complex one-off components, and low-volume parts.
- 7Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and specifications.
- 8Knowledge of various metals, plastics, and materials, including machinability and heat-treatment.
- 9Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- 10Working proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
