Senior Program Manager, Consumer Device Safety Operations
Overview
You will own the safety and risk operating model for a new category of consumer devices at OpenAI. You will build systems that identify, investigate, and resolve safety incidents, critical escalations, privacy-sensitive reports, fraud, and ownership disputes. You will align technical and operational partners across Product, Engineering, Legal, Privacy, Policy, and Support. This is a foundational role that shapes how OpenAI launches and monitors devices safely at scale.
What You'll Do8
- 1Build the operating model for device-safety priorities from problem statement to implementation, including scope, owners, milestones, and risk controls.
- 2Define intake procedures, severity criteria, decision rights, evidence requirements, and escalation paths for high-risk cases.
- 3Translate product, engineering, legal, and policy constraints into workflows, playbooks, and controls that teams execute.
- 4Create launch-readiness plans, training materials, quality controls, and early-life response mechanisms.
- 5Coordinate across Product, Hardware, Software Engineering, Legal, Privacy, Policy, Support, and logistics to resolve dependencies.
- 6Analyze operational data, customer signals, and product telemetry to identify risk patterns and recommend actions.
- 7Drive critical escalations and cross-functional decisions to closure with clear owners and documented decisions.
- 8Implement mechanisms like roadmaps, decision logs, risk registers, and executive communication.
Requirements8
- 18+ years in program management, strategy and operations, product operations, technical program management, trust and safety, or risk operations.
- 2Technical fluency to reason about data flows, telemetry, logs, dashboards, access controls, and automation.
- 3Proven record of managing complex, ambiguous programs from problem framing through launch and scaled operation.
- 4Sound judgment in high-severity situations, making risk-based decisions with incomplete information.
- 5Ability to build trust and drive alignment across teams without direct authority.
- 6Clear communication with technical, operational, legal, and executive audiences.
- 7Practical approach, willing to build and run initial workflows and improve iteratively.
- 8Calm operation in fast-moving environments, learning new domains quickly.
