Senior Mechatronics Engineer, Robotics & Embedded Systems
Overview
As Senior Mechatronics Engineer at Epianeuro, you own the electro-mechanical development of a hand exoskeleton from benchtop prototype to clinical study readiness. You drive actuator modules and sensor subsystems, integrate across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and controls, and ensure system-level performance and reliability. Working on site in Alameda, CA, you collaborate with a focused team of engineers to translate neural intent into real-world action for stroke patients. Your work directly impacts the lives of people with neurological conditions, making this role uniquely purposeful.
What You'll Do7
- 1Drive electro-mechanical development of the exoskeleton from benchtop prototype to scalable system, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- 2Own end-to-end development of actuator modules and sensor subsystems, including encoders, IMUs, and force sensors, from requirements definition to performance optimization.
- 3Drive cross-functional integration across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and controls domains for robust system-level performance.
- 4Develop embedded firmware for microcontrollers, including deterministic control loops and communication (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN).
- 5Define and lead system-level validation strategies, including benchtop, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and full-system testing.
- 6Develop test frameworks, automation tools, and data pipelines to characterize performance, reliability, and failure modes.
- 7Drive root-cause analysis and resolution of cross-disciplinary issues across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.
- 25-7 years in robotics, mechatronics, or complex electromechanical systems.
- 3Proven track record developing integrated hardware systems from concept through validation.
- 4Deep experience in system integration, testing, and debugging across hardware and software boundaries.
- 5Experience leading architecture decisions for complex electromechanical or robotic systems.
- 6Extensive experience with embedded firmware development and real-time systems.
- 7Hands-on experience with actuators and sensors such as IMUs, encoders, load cells, and force/torque sensors.
