Senior Design Quality Engineer, Aerospace APQP
Overview
As the Senior Design Quality Engineer (DQE), you will own quality integration across the product lifecycle, from concept to production readiness, at Blue Origin, shaping the future of spaceflight. You will lead APQP implementation, facilitate DFMEA workshops, and drive risk mitigation with cross-functional teams. Partner with Systems, Design, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality to embed quality into every design decision. Your governance ensures milestone readiness for high-reliability space vehicles and systems.
What You'll Do9
- 1Facilitate APQP implementation across product lifecycle, coordinating cross-functional activities and maintaining plans, schedules, and deliverable tracking.
- 2Monitor APQP readiness, identify risks to program milestones, and lead readiness reviews for gated lifecycle phases.
- 3Drive DFMEA workshops, ensure cross-functional participation, and verify action closure before program gates.
- 4Review engineering drawings and documentation for quality, manufacturability, inspectability, and production readiness, using GD&T standards.
- 5Integrate quality requirements into engineering and manufacturing processes, aligning with PFMEA, Control Plans, and Inspection Plans.
- 6Partner with Reliability and System Safety to integrate design risk assessments and escalate unresolved quality risks.
- 7Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering on DFM/DFA, PFMEA development, and Production Process Verification planning.
- 8Support supplier APQP activities with Supplier Quality and ensure smooth transition from development to production.
- 9Develop APQP procedures, templates, and metrics, capturing lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Requirements14
- 1Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
- 28+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or high-reliability manufacturing environments.
- 3Experience supporting product development from concept through production.
- 4Experience leading cross-functional technical teams.
- 5Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and product development processes.
- 6Working knowledge of configuration management and engineering change processes.
- 7Experience with AIAG APQP or AS9145.
- 8Experience facilitating DFMEAs.
- 9Experience with PFMEAs and Control Plans.
- 10Experience supporting Design Reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and Production Readiness Reviews.
- 11Experience with statistical methods, SPC, and Measurement System Analysis.
- 12ASQ Certified Quality Engineer or equivalent.
- 13Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
- 14Experience with Model-Based Definition and Digital Product Definition.
