Overview

You will align NVIDIA's compiler codebases with open-source ecosystems, focusing on LLVM, Clang, and MLIR. Own the reconciliation of downstream repositories with upstream projects, building tooling that scales across thousands of engineers. You will join the Compute Compiler Team, reporting to the director of compiler infrastructure, and collaborate with compiler developers and CI teams. This role stands out for its dual focus on open-source stewardship and developer productivity, with access to NVIDIA's GPU stack.

What You'll Do7

  • 1Synchronize downstream compiler codebases with upstream open-source projects, including LLVM, Clang, and MLIR, by restructuring and refactoring code.
  • 2Lead efforts to merge or retire internal code branches, reducing divergence from upstream and simplifying future rebases.
  • 3Design and build infrastructure and tooling that improve productivity for compiler engineers, focusing on correctness and maintainability.
  • 4Develop automation for rebasing, patch management, and large-scale refactoring, cutting manual effort and reducing errors.
  • 5Apply AI-assisted tools to code navigation, change analysis, and review workflows, boosting developer velocity.
  • 6Partner with compiler developers and architecture teams to ensure changes scale across distributed teams.
  • 7Act as a technical bridge between internal development and open-source ecosystems, shaping long-term alignment strategies.

Requirements6

  • 13+ years working with large-scale, long-lived codebases, including refactoring and restructuring.
  • 2Hands-on C++ programming skills with a deep understanding of compiler internals: IRs, passes, build systems, and toolchains.
  • 3Strong software engineering fundamentals, prioritizing robust and maintainable developer infrastructure.
  • 4Familiarity with source-control-heavy workflows: downstream vs. upstream repos, patch queues, and rebasing strategies.
  • 5Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and time zones.
  • 6B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
