Sales Engineering Expert | $100-$150/hr Remote
Overview
This contract role puts your sales engineering expertise to work in a unique way: you'll help an AI research organization judge how well AI systems handle real-world technical sales tasks. Instead of building demos or writing proposals yourself, you'll design the scoring rubrics and evaluate completed work samples, providing detailed written reasoning for each score. It's a chance to shape the quality bar for AI in pre-sales while working fully remotely on an hourly basis.
What You'll Do4
- 1Build precise, task-specific scoring criteria for typical pre-sales and solutions engineering outputs, such as discovery call plans, tailored demos, proof-of-concept strategies, security questionnaires, RFP replies, API and architecture walkthroughs, and product-fit risk assessments.
- 2Review both AI-generated and human-produced work samples against those rubrics, writing clear, evidence-backed justifications for every score you assign.
- 3Keep your evaluations consistent and grounded in concrete evidence so the results hold up to scrutiny and can be reproduced by others.
- 4Act on feedback from senior reviewers, refining your approach quickly and incorporating their guidance into your next round of scoring.
Requirements6
- 1At least four years of hands-on experience in a sales engineering, solutions engineering, or related pre-sales role.
- 2Strong command of the full pre-sales lifecycle, including leading technical discovery, turning client needs into product fit, running live demos, handling objections, managing proofs of concept, and evaluating technical risk.
- 3Comfort working with complex B2B software — whether that's SaaS, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity platforms, data platforms, developer tools, or enterprise applications — and explaining how they solve real customer problems.
- 4Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to articulate precisely why a piece of technical work would or wouldn't resonate with both technical and business audiences.
- 5A detail-oriented, consistent mindset and openness to having your judgment reviewed and calibrated against peers.
- 6Previous involvement in AI training, evaluation, or human-data projects is a strong plus.
Who Should Apply
This role is perfect for a seasoned sales engineer who enjoys the analytical side of pre-sales and has a sharp eye for quality. You're someone who can look at a demo script or a security questionnaire and instantly know what's missing, what's persuasive, and what would fail in front of a real customer. You're comfortable writing detailed rationales for your decisions and working independently in a remote, contract setting.
Salary Insight
You'll be paid on an hourly basis at a rate of $100–$150 per hour, depending on experience and engagement specifics.

Application Tip
Before you apply, think of a specific example of a pre-sales deliverable you've reviewed or critiqued in the past — whether it was a demo script, an RFP response, or a proof-of-concept plan. In your application or interview, describe what made it strong or weak, and how you made that judgment call. That will directly mirror the kind of work this role requires.
