Safety Specialist, Driver Compliance & Training
Overview
Own safety compliance and training for driver operations at Werner Enterprises. Manage DOT regulatory adherence, driver evaluations, accident reviews, and 24 hour on call support across a nationwide fleet. Collaborate with terminals and safety leadership to improve safety metrics and training outcomes. This role blends classroom instruction with field evaluations to reduce risk and promote safe driving.
What You'll Do10
- 1Build and deliver safety training including simulator sessions to improve driver performance
- 2Design and conduct accident reviews and annual safety evaluations to identify root causes and prevent recurrence
- 3Administer drug and Breath Alcohol Tests (BAT) in accordance with regulations and policy
- 4Provide 24 hour on call safety coverage as assigned by the Terminal Manager to support incidents
- 5Counsel drivers on DOT and company policy violations and coach on corrective actions
- 6Perform pre trip inspections and road tests to ensure compliance with company policies and DOT regulations
- 7Lead safety department training courses and maintain CBT systems and documentation
- 8Educate drivers through classroom training and hands on sessions to meet regulatory requirements
- 9Coordinate outside safety resources and maintain safety records for audits
- 10Support outdoor work in varying weather and adapt to high pressure safety incidents
Requirements5
- 1High school diploma or equivalent, college preferred
- 2Class A CDL or willingness to obtain within 90 days
- 3Experience in public speaking or adult education
- 4Strong understanding of safety procedures, federal regulations, and company policies
- 5Proficient in Microsoft Office, AS 400, and CBT systems
