Roadway Inspector, NCDOT Standards & Materials Testing
Overview
The role owns roadway inspection and quality assurance testing for transportation construction projects in North Carolina at scale. You will lead asphalt and materials testing, document results, and communicate with project stakeholders while prioritizing safety and quality. You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering engineering, environmental, and construction materials testing services. What You'll Do10
- 1Build comprehensive roadway inspection plans aligned with NCDOT standards and project requirements
- 2Document testing results and inspection observations with precise records for QA compliance
- 3Conduct asphalt density tests and related field testing using gauges and equipment
- 4Perform materials testing for asphalt and concrete inspection as required
- 5Communicate findings and issues clearly with project managers, contractors, and agency representatives
- 6Maintain density gauges and testing equipment ensuring calibration and readiness
- 7Follow safety policies on active construction sites and in the field
- 8Assist with project reporting and detailed documentation for recordkeeping
- 9Apply knowledge of NCDOT specifications to daily inspection and testing tasks
- 10Support continuous improvement by identifying issues and recommending corrective actions
Requirements10
- 1Current NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician Certification
- 2Current NCDOT QMS Density Gauge Technician Certification
- 3Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- 4Prior experience in roadway construction inspection, materials testing, or quality management
- 5Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with project managers, contractors, and agency representatives
- 6Strong written communication skills for preparing detailed reports and maintaining accurate records
- 7Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions
- 8Ability to travel to project sites within North Carolina
- 9Familiarity with NCDOT standards, specifications, testing procedures, and documentation requirements
- 10Demonstrated attention to detail in inspection, testing, documentation, and equipment calibration
