Research Assistant I, Mass Spectrometry
Overview
Houston, Texas-based lab in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery seeks a Research Assistant to own mass spectrometry experiments for intra-surgical tissue analysis and cancer detection. You will work under a Principal Investigator, translating mass spec technologies into clinical applications. You will manage sample analysis, data interpretation, and lab operations. What You'll Do8
- 1Run mass spectrometry analysis on tissue and biological samples, ensuring accurate data collection.
- 2Interpret molecular data from MS outputs and document findings in lab notebooks.
- 3Write protocols, abstracts, and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
- 4Organize lab inventory, maintain equipment, and coordinate daily lab operations.
- 5Select and evaluate research procedures, adjusting methods based on data quality.
- 6Collaborate with team members on experimental design and troubleshooting.
- 7Present results at lab meetings and contribute to research discussions.
- 8Complete additional duties as assigned to advance lab goals.
Requirements7
- 1Bachelor's degree in a basic science or related field.
- 22+ years of laboratory research experience, preferably with mass spectrometry.
- 3Hands-on experience with sample preparation and LC-MS operation.
- 4Ability to interpret complex molecular data and maintain detailed records.
- 5Proficiency in standard lab software for data analysis (e.g., Excel, Python or R).
- 6Strong written communication for manuscripts and protocols.
- 7Authorization to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
