Research Technologist, Pathology & Laboratory Research
Overview
You will run clinical and research assays in the Pathology Department at Johns Hopkins University, owning lab experiments from setup to data collection. You work with molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry techniques under standard protocols. You join a team of 5+ researchers and collaborate closely with pathologists and lab managers. This role builds your laboratory troubleshooting skills through progressive training and hands-on experience in a top-tier academic medical center.
What You'll Do8
- 1Run clinical and research PCR, ELISA, and Western blot assays independently.
- 2Set up experiments based on defined standards, prepare reagents, and calibrate pipettes and pH meters.
- 3Collect and record experimental data, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility in spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks.
- 4Train new users on operation of centrifuges, microscopes, and autoclaves following standard procedures.
- 5Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment, including cleaning and sterilization, to meet safety compliance.
- 6Monitor inventory of chemicals and consumables, and place orders when stock is low.
- 7Troubleshoot common assay issues, such as contamination or signal variability, and adjust protocols under supervision.
- 8Maintain detailed documentation for regulatory audits and quality assurance.
Requirements8
- 1Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field.
- 20-2 years of related laboratory experience, including coursework or internships.
- 3Hands-on experience with pipetting, microscopy, and solution preparation.
- 4Familiarity with safety protocols for handling biohazards and chemicals.
- 5Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry and basic analysis.
- 6Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting and presenting results.
- 7Ability to work Monday-Friday from 9:00am-5:30pm onsite at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine campus.
- 8Experience with histology or pathology is a plus.
