As a Critical Care Float Pool RN at MedStar Health, you will own patient care delivery across ICU and ICU Stepdown units in a Magnet Certified hospital. What You'll Do10
- 1Manage care for critically ill patients in ICU and ICU Stepdown units, using EPIC to document and coordinate treatments.
- 2Float between units based on census, adapting quickly to varying patient acuities and team dynamics.
- 3Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and respond to emergencies, ensuring BLS and ACLS protocols are followed.
- 4Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to create and update care plans for 5-7 patients per shift.
- 5Mentor new nurses and support charge nurse duties when assigned, contributing to unit leadership.
- 6Document patient progress and outcomes accurately, meeting regulatory and hospital standards.
- 7Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and care delivery.
- 8Communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education and emotional support.
- 9Complete all required competencies and maintain licensure, including NIHSS certification.
- 10Adapt to rotating schedules, including nights and weekends, ensuring consistent coverage.
Requirements10
- 12+ years of RN experience in ICU or Critical Care required.
- 2ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited nursing program.
- 3Active MD RN License or Compact State RN and BLS for Healthcare Providers (AHA or Red Cross).
- 4ACLS and NIHSS certifications strongly preferred.
- 5Ability to float between ICU and Stepdown units.
- 6Basic Life Support certification must be current.
- 7Experience with electronic health records, preferably EPIC.
- 8Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- 9Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends.
- 10Commitment to high-quality patient care and teamwork.
Salary Insight
$87 - $131k per year
