Overview

Serve as an ICU Registered Nurse at the VA Medical Center in Houston, TX in a full-time contract role. What You'll Do10

  • 1Assess physiological and psychosocial status of each patient upon admission and throughout the shift, using critical care monitoring and 12-lead EKG.
  • 2Formulate and implement a nursing plan of care based on health data, setting goals and coordinating nursing actions for ICU patients.
  • 3Administer drugs and titrations per ACLS protocol, ensuring safe delivery of prescribed medications and solutions.
  • 4Monitor patients continuously, using Zoll defibrillator, Propac transport monitor, and bedside central monitors to detect changes.
  • 5Coordinate patient care needs with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians and specialists, to optimize outcomes.
  • 6Perform procedures including Foley catheter insertion, peripheral IV access, and blood culture collection following hospital policy.
  • 7Operate mechanical ventilators, IV infusion pumps, bladder scanner, Accu-check, and crash cart with proficiency.
  • 8Participate in patient and family teaching, providing education on condition, treatment, and self-care.
  • 9Document all care in a timely, accurate manner, including hand-off reports, to ensure continuity.
  • 10Maintain performance measures in the ER, including EKG, Troponin, Pneumonia Protocol, and turnaround times.

Requirements7

  • 12+ years of ICU or CCU experience within the last 5 years, caring for medically and surgically unstable patients.
  • 2Current BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association.
  • 3Active, unrestricted RN license in any US state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
  • 4Graduate of a school of nursing accredited by NLN (National League of Nursing) or CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education).
  • 5Proficiency in critical care skills: drug administration, Foley catheter insertion, IV access, 12-lead EKG, and lab specimen collection.
  • 6Experience with ventilator management, IV pumps, Zoll defibrillator, and central monitoring systems.
  • 7Strong documentation skills with attention to accuracy and timeliness in electronic health records.
