Recreational Therapist (PRN) - Behavioral Health
Overview
You will own therapeutic recreation programming for patients at Raleigh Oaks Behavioral Health, planning and delivering individual and group activities across five domains: physical, social, intellectual, creative, and spiritual. You will assess each patient's needs, design personalized treatment plans, and facilitate activities that build coping skills and social confidence. You will work on-site with a multidisciplinary team, documenting progress and adjusting interventions in real time. This role demands CTRS certification or active pursuit, plus a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or a related field.
What You'll Do9
- 1Assess patient needs through interviews with patients and families, identifying skills, interests, and limitations to shape individualized treatment plans.
- 2Plan and run a activities program covering therapeutic leisure skills, leisure education, and awareness, aligning with patient goals.
- 3Orient new patients to the program, explaining how activities support their treatment and recovery.
- 4Lead therapeutic sessions such as exercise, games, sports, dance, music, art, and relaxation techniques, adapting to patient needs.
- 5Monitor and evaluate patient progress, interest, attitude, and behavior, adjusting activities as needed.
- 6Facilitate both individual and group recreation sessions that address physical, social, intellectual, creative, and spiritual domains.
- 7Modify activities to suit specific groups, ensuring inclusivity and engagement for all patients.
- 8Document assessments and progress notes accurately and on time.
- 9Maintain departmental resources by managing supplies and equipment, requesting replacements as needed.
Requirements5
- 1Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- 21+ years of experience in recreation within a healthcare setting, with knowledge of the patient population served.
- 3Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification or active pursuit; OR certification in a specialty area like art, dance, or music; OR clinical licensure (LCPC, LPC) with expressive therapy certification.
- 4Ability to work on-site at the facility in Garner, North Carolina.
- 5No supervisory duties required.
