Overview

You will own radiological surveys, contamination control, and airborne monitoring across DOE, NRC, and USACE regulated remediation sites. Operating within the Jacobs Radiation Protection Program, you'll enforce ALARA principles and prepare Radiological Work Permits (RWPs) as part of a dedicated team. You'll mentor junior technicians and ensure safe conduct of all radiological work. This role offers direct hands-on impact in a mission-critical environment outside Pittsburgh, PA.

What You'll Do10

  • 1Perform free-release surveys for materials in radiological controlled areas using GM counters and ion chambers.
  • 2Conduct personnel contamination surveys and enforce contamination control protocols on-site.
  • 3Monitor airborne radioactivity and support the personnel and perimeter dosimetry program.
  • 4Provide radiological coverage for maintenance and operational tasks, preparing Radiological Work Permits (RWPs) and responding to emergencies.
  • 5Survey waste, excess materials, vehicles, and equipment to verify compliance with release criteria.
  • 6Serve as radiological oversight mentor to Jacobs personnel, validating safe conduct of radiological work.
  • 7Perform ongoing radiological surveillance and assessments, documenting findings per procedures.
  • 8Maintain radiological instruments, including daily performance checks, calibrations, and repairs.
  • 9Operate field and counting instruments according to approved procedures and manufacturer manuals.
  • 10Oversee and verify all work performed by junior RCTs, ensuring adherence to the Radiation Protection Program (RPPg).

Requirements8

  • 1High school diploma or GED minimum.
  • 2DOE Core Certification, NRRPT, or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
  • 32+ years documented experience providing radiological coverage in moderate dose/contamination environments on DOE, NRC, or USACE projects.
  • 4Completion of DOE Radiological Control Standard Core or qualifications per ANSI/ANS-3.1.
  • 5For junior roles: 1+ year experience as Radiological Worker II in similar environments.
  • 6Ability to qualify and wear a respirator, pass medical monitoring, beryllium sensitivity test, and site security requirements.
  • 7Preference for candidates within driving distance to the SLDA site in western Pennsylvania.
  • 8US citizenship required.
