Quality Welding Engineer (E5) at Applied Materials
Overview
We seek a Quality Welding Engineer to lead fabrication of ultra-high-purity gas delivery systems in a cleanroom setting. The role owns weld quality across the fabrication lifecycle while collaborating with cross-functional teams. This position differs by focusing on SEMI standard compliance and cleanroom welding excellence.
What You'll Do11
- 1Develop, qualify, and maintain welding procedure specifications for orbital GTAW of UHP gas lines and chambers
- 2Establish and audit welder qualification programs for orbital and manual welding personnel
- 3Serve as site subject matter expert on SEMI standards including F78 F81 E49.8 and F70
- 4Own weld quality through gowning discipline, purge gas control, and contamination prevention
- 5Perform visual boroscopic and dimensional inspections and drive root-cause analysis for discrepancies
- 6Provide metallurgical oversight of 316L stainless steel including heat-affected zone control
- 7Specify and maintain orbital welding equipment from manufacturers such as Arc Machines Inc.
- 8Partner with manufacturing engineering to qualify internal and supplier weld sources
- 9Support root-cause investigations and 8D/CAPA activities for weld-related issues
- 10Maintain weld traveler documentation and traceability for quality audits
- 11Drive continuous improvement in weld processes and adherence to SEMI specifications
Requirements12
- 1Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
- 25+ years welding engineering experience in semiconductor capital equipment or UHP gas systems
- 3Demonstrated knowledge of SEMI F78 F81 E49.8 and F70 standards
- 4Hands-on experience with orbital GTAW equipment from Arc Machines Inc. or similar OEMs
- 5Expertise in 316L stainless steel metallurgy and UHP alloy welding
- 6Cleanroom manufacturing experience in Class 100/ISO 5 environments
- 7Familiarity with AWS D1.2 or ASME Section IX codes for weld qualification
- 8Preferred AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification
- 9Experience with supplier qualification and gas panel engineering documentation
- 10Knowledge of VCR/VCO fitting cleanliness requirements and UHP component handling
- 11Strong root-cause analysis skills using 8D fishbone or 5-Why methodologies
- 12Background in MFC/component-level FMEA and semiconductor quality systems
