Pursuits & Preconstruction Manager, Heavy Civil Construction
Overview
Ames Construction seeks a Pursuits & Preconstruction Manager to lead strategic project pursuits and preconstruction for heavy civil projects exceeding $100M. You will own the full pursuit lifecycle, from go/no-go evaluations to design-build proposals, partnering with estimating, operations, and executive teams. This role combines leadership, technical strategy, and client engagement, shaping the company's growth in highways, bridges, and industrial infrastructure. You will drive innovative delivery methods and transition winning projects to operations.
What You'll Do10
- 1Lead go/no-go evaluations and qualification for infrastructure opportunities.
- 2Develop pursuit strategies aligned with company growth, including win themes and differentiators.
- 3Coordinate proposal development, interviews, and client presentations for design-build and CM/GC projects.
- 4Partner with operations, estimating, and business development to craft winning project strategies.
- 5Facilitate pursuit planning, schedule management, and performance tracking with lessons learned.
- 6Direct preconstruction for design-build, progressive design-build, and negotiated projects, including conceptual estimating and value engineering.
- 7Coordinate constructability reviews, risk mitigation, and cost alignment with owners and designers.
- 8Collaborate with estimating teams on accurate pricing, procurement, and subcontractor engagement.
- 9Mentor pursuit coordinators and estimators, fostering cross-functional teamwork.
- 10Support alternative technical concepts and continuous improvement in pursuit processes.
Requirements10
- 18+ years in heavy civil construction, estimating, or preconstruction.
- 2Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- 3Proven experience leading design-build, CM/GC, or progressive design-build pursuits.
- 4Experience with transportation, bridges, water resources, earthwork, utilities, or mining projects.
- 5Strong knowledge in estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
- 6Track record of winning public and private infrastructure bids.
- 7Excellent presentation and negotiation abilities for client engagement.
- 8Strategic planning and organizational skills for managing multiple deadlines.
- 9Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction software (e.g., P6, Accubid).
- 10Willing to travel to project sites and work in both office and field conditions.
