Psychiatric RN Per Diem, Behavioral Health
Overview
You will deliver psychiatric nursing care to members in the behavioral health service departments at Kaiser Permanente's Sylmar Medical Offices. You will assess dysfunction, help patients regain coping abilities, and prevent further disability through targeted interventions. You will coordinate with psychiatrists and the pharmacy, triage calls, and provide education in various forums. This per diem role offers flexibility and requires one Saturday per month, with travel to SCL as needed.
What You'll Do9
- 1Coordinate with the pharmacy to manage approved medications.
- 2Provide patient education on psychiatric conditions and treatments in individual and group settings.
- 3Document all services in the member chart following standard nursing procedures.
- 4Triage phone calls and direct patients to appropriate staff or community resources.
- 5Assist psychiatrists in coordinating internal and external hospitalizations.
- 6Perform basic physical assessments, including vital signs and monitoring for side effects of psychiatric medications.
- 7Administer prescribed medications per physician orders and protocol.
- 8Utilize the electronic medical record for medication refills and review lab results.
- 9Refer abnormal findings to physicians within protocols and guidelines.
Requirements8
- 11+ years recent (within 3 years) RN psychiatric experience.
- 2Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
- 3Active Registered Nurse License (California).
- 4Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- 5Psychiatric and chemical dependency knowledge.
- 6Able to triage and evaluate various psychiatric populations.
- 7Group leadership skills and excellent verbal and written communication.
- 8Preferred: Telephone triage experience, BSN, bilingual Spanish, and outpatient psych experience.
