Project Engineer, Construction Management & Heavy Civil
Overview
Own the planning and daily execution of construction projects in Austin and Dallas, TX, working under the guidance of a Project Manager. Coordinate submittal approvals, material deliveries, and schedule maintenance to keep projects on budget and compliant with Zero Harm safety culture. Collaborate with a team of engineers and superintendents to deliver heavy civil and vertical construction for public and private clients. This entry-level role offers hands-on exposure to preconstruction, project rollout, and closeout phases with Balfour Beatty.
What You'll Do9
- 1Drive the submittal approval process, tracking each submission from contractor to engineer to ensure timely feedback and compliance with project specs.
- 2Coordinate material deliveries on-site, aligning arrival schedules with the construction timeline to prevent delays and keep crews productive.
- 3Maintain project schedules in P6 or Microsoft Project, updating progress and flagging potential bottlenecks to the Project Manager.
- 4Assist in preconstruction activities, including quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid package preparation for subcontractors.
- 5Prepare and track RFIs and change orders, documenting scope changes and securing approvals to keep project records current.
- 6Manage punch-list items and closeout documentation, ensuring all work is completed and turned over to the owner on schedule.
- 7Facilitate sub-contractor meetings, recording minutes and action items to align trade partners with project milestones.
- 8Monitor job-site safety compliance, conducting daily walkthroughs to reinforce Zero Harm policies and report any hazards.
- 9Support the Project Manager with budget tracking and cost reporting, comparing actuals to estimates to control spending.
Requirements7
- 1B.S. in Construction Management or related field preferred.
- 21-3 years of construction experience or a 6-month intern co-op with a construction company.
- 3Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Office for project documentation and communication.
- 4Experience with RFIs, change orders, submittals, punch lists, and sub-contractor meeting minutes.
- 5Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- 6Strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate multiple tasks and stakeholders.
- 7Commitment to safety, with understanding of Zero Harm or similar safety programs.
