Principal Systems Engineer, Flight Simulator Programs
Overview
You will own the technical solution for a strategic rotary-wing simulator trainer program, guiding it from design through delivery as the technical authority. Reporting to the Program Manager, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and act as the chief engineer for the entire program, ensuring technical excellence and program success. This role requires deep expertise in Systems Engineering, Flight Simulation, and Model-Based Systems Engineering, with the opportunity to shape a critical defense training platform. You will drive innovation and collaboration across DO-178C, ARINC 610, and Open Geospatial Consortium standards, working closely with customers and stakeholders to deliver a world-class training system.
What You'll Do8
- 1Define and own the end-to-end technical architecture for the rotary-wing simulator, ensuring alignment with DO-178C and ARINC 610 standards from day one.
- 2Lead the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, integration, and verification, using MBSE tools like MagicDraw and SysML models.
- 3Drive technical risk assessment and mitigation, making data-driven decisions to keep the program on schedule and within budget during the first 90 days.
- 4Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical conflicts and ensure seamless integration of Flight Dynamics models, Visual Systems, and Motion Platforms.
- 5Present technical designs and progress to customers and executives, translating complex engineering concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- 6Mentor junior engineers in System Engineering best practices, fostering a culture of technical rigor and continuous improvement.
- 7Collaborate with program management to define technical milestones and deliverables, ensuring alignment with contract requirements and certification needs.
- 8Oversee the integration of COTS and custom hardware components, validating performance against RTCA DO-160 environmental standards.
Requirements8
- 110+ years of experience in systems engineering within the defense or aerospace industry, with a focus on flight simulation.
- 25+ years of experience as a technical lead or chief engineer on complex simulator programs, delivering to DO-178C and ARINC 610.
- 3Expert knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using tools like MagicDraw or Rhapsody.
- 4Proficiency in Systems Engineering processes, including requirements management, design reviews, and configuration management.
- 5Hands-on experience with simulation architectures, including DIS and HLA protocols, and Open Geospatial Consortium standards.
- 6Strong understanding of software development lifecycles and hardware-software integration for real-time systems.
- 7Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
- 8Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
